Blessed
There’s nothing like Christmas coming just around the corner to make me realize how fortunate I am. I have great family members asking for my Christmas list, and I can honestly barely think of anything to put on it, and I had the same problem last year. It’s that time of year that I’m supposed to be eyeing everything and figuring out the things I “need.” I’ve...

Thanksgiving: Phase One
We had Thanksgiving supper at my parents’ house tonight with 18 of the 20 members of the King side of the family. We ate at 7:00. Tomorrow, the 20 members of the Pruett side of the family will be here at 12:00 for Thanksgiving lunch, then Jonathan and I will go to Columbia, Tenn., for Thanksgiving supper with his mom’s side of the family at 5:00. Yes, that’s THREE Thanksgiving...

Sleeping in
Ma: Jared, it's 12:00. It's time for bed, OK?
Jared: Yes ma'am. I'm going to sleep late tomorrow.
Ma: OK.
Me: What time are you going to get up in the morning?
Jared: 10:00 a.m.
Me: Yeah, right...
Jared: 11:00 a.m.
Me: You're going to wake up at 11:00 a.m.?
Jared: Yes ma'am. ... I'm going to wake up at 12:00 p.m.

Forgiveness or Healing?
jlgerhardt: Last night during the after-class devotional, Justin talked about Mark 2 and the story of the paralytic man with awesome friends who helped him get close to Jesus (I made a cool yarn and popsicle stick paralytic-man-craft in 1st grade Bible class. The roof actually slid back and you could lift and lower the man on the bed. Like I said, cool.). Anyway, Justin pointed out that when...

Jonathan and I are thinking of taking a vacation...
But we can’t officially decide where to go. No beach, nowhere that requires a $1,000 plane ticket and we want to save Chicago for the spring/summer. We’ll go while I’m off for New Year’s. Where should we go?

“(Scrolling through Nick’s iPod) You’ve got to be kidding me!...”
– -Norah from Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist This brought back memories. I remember before Jonathan and I ever went on our first date, he was riding with me and some friends from church one Sunday night. It was just the second time we had met (we first met at a concert in Nashville), and,...

Omnipotent-Benevolent God
Chartrand: I don't understand this omnipotent-benevolent thing.
Camerlengo: You've been reading Scripture.
Chartrand: I try.
Camerlengo: You are confused because the Bible described God as an omnipotent and benevolent deity.
Chartrand: Exactly.
Camerlengo: Omnipotent-benevolent simply means that God is all-powerful AND well-meaning.
Chartrand: I understand the concept. It's just ... there seems to be a contradiction.
Camerlengo: Yes. The contradiction is pain. Man's starvation, war, sickness...
Chartrand: Exactly! Terrible things happen in this world. Human tragedy seems like proof that God could not possibly be both all-powerful and well-meaning. If He loves us and has the power to change our situation, He would prevent our pain, wouldn't He?
Camerlengo: Would He?
Chartrand: Well ... if God loves us, and He can protect us, He would have to. It seems He is either omnipotent and uncaring, or benevolent and powerless to help.
Camerlengo: Do you have children, Lieutenant?
Chartrand: No, signore.
Camerlengo: Image you had an eight-year-old son ... Would you love him?
Chartrand: Of course.
Camerlengo: Would you do everything in you power to prevent pain in his life?
Chartrand: Of course.
Camerlengo: Would you let him skateboard?
Chartrand: Yeah, I guess ... Sure, I'd let him skateboard, but I'd tell him to be careful.
Camerlengo: So as this child's father, you would give him some basic, good advice and then let him go off and make his own mistakes?
Chartrand: I wouldn't run behind him and mollycoddle him if that's what you mean.
Camerlengo: But what if he fell and skinned his knee?
Chartrand: He would learn to be more careful.
Camerlengo: So although you have the power to interfere and prevent your child's pain, you would choose to show your love by letting him learn his own lessons?
Chartrand: Of course. Pain is part of growing up. It's how we learn.
Camerlengo: Exactly.

The Main Thing and the Discomfort(er)
Jonathan and I decided yesterday that we wanted to do some redecorating to our house. I want to order a few prints of some of my photos, we wanted a new bedspread (down comforter) and to turn our bedroom/bathroom into a black and white theme instead of the brown and blue that our master and guest bedrooms both have right now. We still had $185 in gift cards from our wedding (almost two and a half...

BFFs
Jonathan: Tuskegee, it's a predominately-black college in Alabama.
David: And their most famous graduate is who?
Jonathan: George Washington Carver.
Donna: (said like a first-grader) He's my friend. :)
Jonathan: What? Because you eat peanut butter every morning?
Donna: Yep. What would I do without him?

Help-Portrait
I’ve heard a lot about this but haven’t come up with the best way to accomplish it around this area. Anyone in/around Henderson have any ideas? If you are a photographer, you should check out this project. It is a pretty neat concept. It’s basically an idea of spreading hope and joy and love through giving pictures.. not taking them. Although I am fairly limited on the amount of...

I’m sure you’ve caught on by now that my aunt and new uncle got married in Las Vegas today. Here’s a few pictures. Seesters. Do they look alike or not? Join the debate… Eli is Cathy’s 16-year-old son. He knew (and approved) about the wedding, but this was his reply to Cathy’s text after the wedding. To see the rest, click...

WatchWatch
My aunt got engaged last week. After being single for 17 years, this is a big deal. An even bigger deal is that she’s decided to get married today in Las Vegas, just the two of them. When my mother and I found out they were getting married, we immediately decided it wouldn’t be just the two of them there. We booked our flights and hotel that day, and, on Saturday, we left for Las Vegas. We didn’t...
